OUR STORY

Umtiza Farmers' Corp, a registered public company, is a supplier of agricultural inputs with outlets across the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa with its Head Office situated in East London (Buffalo City). We provide agricultural products and services to local farmers, stimulating growth and assisting in sustainable farming practices.  It is in these remote areas where developing sustainable agriculture is widely regarded as the stimulus of growth and alleviating poverty.

VISION

To be the leading and preferred agriculture business supplier in communal and emerging farming markets in Africa.

MISSION

To supply quality agricultural products and services to emerging farmers and communal markets in a sustainable and profitable manner through the support of our investors, suppliers, employees and our customers.

Umtiza Farmers' Corp is named after a local tree species in the legume family known as the Umtiza Tree.
It is a rare species found in the Amathole District. Like this tree, our business has its roots in the Eastern Cape.

Company history

Umtiza started doing business in 1993 on the back of a truck trading from the East London Fresh Produce Market.
The Company initially traded as Umtiza Foods, Feeds and Seeds CC and its founding members were Messrs Allan Pietrucci and Douglas Du Preez who were later joined by Dumisani Fadana in 2004 acquiring 25% of shareholding in the company.
The formation of the Company was influenced by the termination of Farmer Support Centres.  There was a need for similar services to communal farmers, especially in the former homeland areas where there were no traditional co-operatives.
The Company provide services to communal farmers in the Eastern Cape and also supplies agricultural inputs to various Government Departments.
Umtiza Farmers' Corp provides value added services within its operational areas by providing training to the farmers to support growth in their farming activities.

"We are dedicated to the growth and revitalisation of agriculture by increasing the yields in rural areas, which will provide regular income to people and economy."

shareholding

Since 1993, Umtiza supplies affordable agricultural input and maintenance products to its members and clients. It also offers advice and training programmes and creates local markets for farmers’ produce. Members and clients are made up of commercial and emerging farmers and small-scale stock and crop owners. In March 2017 Die Humansdorpse Landbou Koöperasie (trading as The Co-op | Die Koöperasie) bought 72.16% of Umtiza shares. Umtiza FC continues to be a leading brand which is the support centre for emerging farmers and prioritising their communal farming needs.

Growth

Umtiza’s focus is on communal and emerging markets. Umtiza's first branch opened in King William's Town in 1996 and by 2004 it had a presence in most towns of the former Ciskei area. In 2004, Umtiza expanded to the former Transkei area and established its first branch in Tsomo, which was later followed by Butterworth in 2006. By 2016 , Umtiza had 15 branches spread out from the Great Fish River to the Mthatha River.

Umtiza’s growth will be the stakeholders’ growth.
